The world’s most important chili/pepper event will be held in Peru

The international markets are demanding more and more of Peru’s chilies and peppers. These exports increased with 19% and cashed in $271.8 million according to the Adex (Exporters association).

In the first months of 2016 the total of the Peruvian exports were about $36.6 million.

Because of the growing export numbers within the international markets, Peru has been chosen to host the 23rd International Pepper Conference 2016. This conference is the world’s most important Capsicum event. (more…)

Tourism reduces poverty in Peru

In the past five years, more than 300,000 new jobs have been created in Peru due to the tourism industry. The Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed that this job creation has aided in the reduction of poverty throughout the country.

Silva announced, ‘’It has meant a greater participation of small enterprises and women in the tourism industry.’’ Because of this, more people have jobs and more women are involved in business.

Looking back on 2015, tourism brought in a revenue of $3.32 billion and expanded by 7.5%. (more…)

The Demand for Guinea Pigs increases

The National Institute of Agriculture Innovation is a research team that is dedicated to improve guinea pigs in the countries of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Not only are countries in South America interested in this endeavor, but Africa has also expressed interest. Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are planning to host events on food security, and Peru has been invited to said events.

Disaster Risk Reduction Conference to be held in Lima

On December 5th and 6th of 2016, Lima will host an International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

The College of Engineers of Peru and the World Federation of Engineering of Organizations have been working tirelessly to ensure that the world’s experts will be present at the Conference. Almost 800 specialists, coming from all around the world, are expected.

Peru leads in maca and grape exports

The Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry of Peru recently announced that Peru is one of the world’s main food exporting countries. It currently ranks as the world’s leading exporter of maca, and ranks fifth in the export of grapes.

In 2015, maca sales exceeded $6.6 million, which required a record production of 58,000 tonnes of maca. Most of this production was exported to Hong Kong, China, and Vietnam. The specific regions of Peru that lead in maca production are Pasco, Junin, and Huancavelica.

Gran Teatro Nacional to honor Mother’s Day and Pachamama

On May 6th, 2016, the Gran Teatro Nacional will be hosting an event called, ‘’Pachamama: Canto y Rito a la madre’’ (Pachamama: Chant and Rite to mothers) in Lima. More than 40 talented artists will participate in this production with the intent to honor Pachamama and the many mothers around the world.

Violinist Ándres Chimango Lares, one of Peru’s most famous musicians, will be leading the event. Other musicians include Jaime Guardia, Manual Silva ‘Pinchincucha’, Porfirio Ayvar, Riber Oré, and numerous Andean artists.

Peru’s economic growth is declared to be impressive

The Ford Foundation Professor at Harvard University, Dani Rodrik. Rodrik is a professor of International Economy at the well-known institution in the United States. His particular interests reside in globalization and political economic development.

As he studied the growth trends of Peru, he declared it to be amazing that it has reached an expansion rate above 3% in the current state of the global economy.

He asserted this claim by explaining that a 3% growth rate is more than several developed countries. (more…)

Earthquake in Ecuador

Last Saturday, Ecuador experienced a high magnitude earthquake. Registering 7.8 on the Richter scale, the shockwaves were so strong that they reached Peru and Colombia. A tsunami alert was issued in Tumbes, Peru, and buildings were evacuated in some areas of Colombia.

Taking place at 7 pm, the earthquake originated in the north of Ecuador in Esmeraldas. The larger cities in Ecuador were those that were most affected, such as Quito and Guayaquil.

At least 1500 people were injured in the earthquake, and 272 people died. (more…)

Tourist Numbers increase for February in Peru

Considering the number of tourists that traveled to Peru in 2015, there was a 9.9% rise in tourist numbers this past February 2016. In fact, every month this year has seen an increased number of foreign tourists.

An additional 29,000 tourists flocked to Peru in the first months of 2016. The majority of these people come from Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Colombia, and Uruguay.

There were also visitors from the Pacific Alliance, APEC countries, and European countries. Most European travelers are from the United Kingdom and France. (more…)

Food Critics React after the Gastronomy Event in Lima

On April 12th and 13th, the 1st International Gastronomy Congress took place in Lima. The Senior Editor of Food Inspiration offers his opinions on the burgeoning subject of food, not only in Peru but on an international level.

Frank Linder, the Senior Editor, asserts that food is becoming more political. He insists that by looking at ingredients, portion sizes, preparation styles, etc, that much can be said about what´s going on behind the scenes in a country´s politics.

Even a person´s lifestyle can be pinpointed by observing the food that they eat and the restaurants that they choose. (more…)

Peru brings its fashion to the Windy City

Many SMEs, or ´´small-and-medium-sized enterprises,´´ showed off their wide-variety of products at Stylemax 2016, a series of clothing and fashion shows that took place in Chicago from April 2 to April 5th.

This event is the top fashion event for women´s clothing and accessories. It runs four times a year and draws in an incredible amount of business. 2,500 buyers, various stores, and numerous owners were present at Stylemax to search out styles and items for the next winter season.

Six Peruvian SMEs participated in Stylemax with clothing and jewelry products. (more…)

Peru sends aid to Ecuador

The Peruvian Ministry of Health sent a group of people to Ecuador after the earthquake last Saturday. Health Minister Anibal Velasquez headed up the effort of this team.

Comprised of medical experts from all around Peru, the team brought medicine, tools, and hospital equipment to care for those that had been injured in the natural disaster.

With 50 team members, over 50 hospital beds, and 1000 doses of medicine, much support is being provided to Ecuador. (more…)
