Peru now one of the World’s Top 10 Providers of Food

During the last four years, Peru has become the largest exporter of not only Quinoa, the golden grain of the inca’s, but also of maca, a root that belongs to the radish family, and asparagus. This has been reported by the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI).

With this success Peru is now one of the world’s top 10 providers of food, thanks to the wonderfull soil donditions and micro-climates. Next to maca, asparagus and quinoa, Peru also exports grapes, avocados, beans, ginger mangoes and coffee; Peru is actually the second largest exporter of organic coffee. (more…)

New direct flight from Chinchero to Miami

The new airport in Chinchero (Peru), which is expected to be completed by the year 2020, will allow passengers from Miami to avoid in Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport by flying directly to the Cusco region.

Chinchero is a small traditional town of just under 10,000 residence, located 30km from Cusco.

Once the airport is finished it is possible that the airport will also connect to many Latin American capitals. (more…)

A Show Case of Orchids in Lima

Did you know that 10% of all the worlds orchid species can be found in Peru? On top of that just this year 3 new species were discovered near Machu Picchu, adding to the regions total of over 3,000, and although Ecuador at the moment has the most number of registered orchids it is believed that Peru is really not far behind and with a little more investigation could take the lead.

Lima isn´t exactly the first place you would think to find this beautiful fauna but thanks to Club Peruano de Orquideas you can see the international exhibition of orchids (more…)

Cusco named Best City by US Travel Magazine

The Imperial city of Cusco is once again recognized for its history, quality of services and cultural activities.

For the third consecutive year, Cusco has been chosen as the best city in Central and South America by the US Travel Magazine, Travel and Leisure. This newest honor, published on their website along with the rest of the results, placed Cusco ahead of cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City, Buenos Aires and Lima, and others from different regions.

National Geographic suggests huge discoveries will be made in the 21st century

National Geographic archaeologist Fredrik Hiebert looks forward to the major discoveries to be made in the 21st century, including Peruvian archaeology, the tomb of Genghis Khan, and frozen Neanderthals, among other exciting potential archaeological finds.

References are made to Hiram Bingham and the world famous Inca citadel, Machu Picchu: “When the National Geographic Society awarded its first archaeology grant to Hiram Bingham in 1912, the archaeologist headed off to Machu Picchu with one of the most advanced pieces of technology at the time (more…)

World Bank Annual meeting started this week in Lima

This year Lima is hosting the annual meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary fund. The meeting, held in the new Lima Convention Center, started on Monday the 5th and will run until the 12th October. In the meetings, bank governors and finance ministers with academics and private sector bosses from 188 countries will discuss the main issues facing the world’s finances.

The themes of the meeting will include: Chinas economic slow down, reduction of metal prices, and the fight against poverty with focus on the new development goals for 2030. (more…)

New Lima convention center expected to have a positive effect on tourism

The new convention center in Lima was opened on Thursday by Peruvian president Ollanta Humala. He said that the center will have a direct effect on tourism in the area as it will hold important international events.

This new location for events will put Peru in the position of being a logistics hub in Latin America. It will provide the infrastructure and equipment to hold these large events as well as the capacity to hold 10,000 people at a time. It has a total of 18 halls which each be divided into two. Peru wants action to Fight Climate Change Impact

In order to mitigate climate changes in Peru, the Peruvian Ministry of Environment has launched a series of programs to flight the lower availability of water in the Peruvian highlands. Minster Gabriel Quijandria told the Andina news agency that he is consdering accessing the UN Green Climate Fund to finance those projects. Quijandria wans to create a project port folio that will allow Peru to become one of the first countries to access the funds of the Green Climate Fund, that relies on global capital. (more…)

Peru Among Top 4 Countries for Tourism Investment

With Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, the beautiful beaches of the north, and the country’s lively gastronomic scene, tourists know that there’s no losing when it comes to traveling to Peru. And now investors are taking note, ranking Peru in the top four Latin American countries most attractive to tourism investment, along with Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.

The president of the South American Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference 2015, Arturo Garcia Rosa, said that Peru is among the best in Latin America for attracting investment to develop tourism. (more…)
