Peruvian food products to Food Conference in Madrid

Sierra Exportadora – a government program that helps Peruvian farmers to promote their products – will participate in the international culinary conference “Madrid Fusion 2014” held in the Spanish capital from Jan 27 will Jan 29. A selection of nutritious food products from different Andean regions of Peru will be in the spotligh with the aim to promote the Andean grains, trout, cheese, and other products from Peru’s highlands.
Alfonso Velasquez, head of Sierra Exportadora, will take the opportunity to present a recipe book titled “Quinua Fusión – Cinco Continentes” (Quinoa Fusion – Five Continents. (more…)

Peru top destination for US tourists in 2014

Based on the results of a survey of the United States Tour Operators Association, the USTOA, Peru is now the third most popular destination for Northamerican travelers, together with China.

The most popular spot is Italy and Great Brittain is second on the ranking. The USTOA confirmed Peru is becoming an increasingly popular destination for American tourist and the interest for the country as a vacation spot is still on the rise.

Peru brand billboard in NY’s Times Square

For the second year in a row, the Peru brand logo “Marca Peru” was in a big billboard in New York’s Time Square, to promote new and famous tourist destinations in Peru.

Three giant screeens displayed short parts of the documentary “Recordarás Perú” (You will remember Peru) and were watched by over 1 million visitors of the Times Square area.

The Peru brand logo shined out by showcasing the way Peru’s sights, people, and culture have a lasting impact on visitors. (more…)

Peru will promote new tourism at Tourism Fair in Spain

PromPeru, the export and tourism agency of Peru, will go to the upcoming International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain from Jan. 22 till 26, with delegation of 14 tourism-related companies.

The main goal is to showcase a new tourism offer that combines “nature, health and wellbeing”and to further promote Peru as a “mega-diverse”, country, as they have been doing since the big campaign Marca Peru was launched in 2011.

The Peruvian delegation will hold at least 60 business meetings with promoting agencies tourism (more…)

Peru will receive artifacts taken from the country

Peruvian cultural authorities will welcome 47 artifacts back of Peruvian origine, that have been illegally taken from the country.

According to Andina news agency, the recovered artifacts have made their way back home, to Peru, from all over the world. The Ministry of Culture will receive objects found in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Egypt, and Brazil.

The artifacts are really diverse: there is textile, ceramic pieces, paleontological specimens, and even a map from the 1600s. (more…)

Chilcano Week in Peru till January 19th

From January 10 till January 19th, Peru is celebrating the fifth Chilcano Week. “Chilcano de Pisco” is a popular cocktail in Peru – not as famous as Piso Sour but still very nice .

Interesting fact is that no one really seems to know where Chilcano comes from, nor, what the word Chilcano actually means.

According to some, ‘chilcano’ comes from the town of Chilca, in the province of Lima. Chilcano is used for people or things originating in Chilca.

A new summer distraction has opened in Lima: Evenpro Park

According to Peru this Week, Evenpro park is a traveling amusement park that opened on Jan. 1 and will be in Lima until March 10, 2014.

It includes 30 different rides imported from the United States by sea, of which half are meant for adults and the other half, for younger kids.

The park promoters promise complete safety. “The machines won’t even turn on if the safety locking arms on the seats aren’t firmly attached. If there is a power outage, the machines come down using gravity. The word ‘accident’ does not exist in this park” (more…)

Will the Colca Valley be an UNESCO Global Geopark?

Peruvian authorities have announced they will ask UNESCO to add the Colca Valley (Arequipa) to its Global Geoparks Network, in order to stimulating travel and tourism to this part of Peru.

The Colca Valley boasts a number of important geological sites and the deep and amazing Colca Canyon attracts many Earth-based scientists – next to many tourists.

The mayor of Arequipa’s Caylloma province, Caceres, us also head of the Colca Autonomous Authority or Autocolca and he confirmed that this office will prepare a formal request to the UNESCO. (more…)

New campaign in Peru to promote Paracas National Reserve

Peru has just launched a tourism campaign to attract more than 30,000 visitors to the Paracas National Reserve this summer.

Established in 1975, the Paracas National Reserve is a four-hour drive south of the Peruvian capital Lima, in the province of Pisco in Ica department and it is home to one of the largest sea-lion colonies in the world.

You can also see numerous birds, including pink flamingo on the Peruvian coastline.
The coastal desert area around the reserve was the home of the pre-Inca Paracas culture (more…)
