Most businesses in Peru open at around 9:00 am, although some may open as early as 7:00 am depending on their owners and what they sell. Some, but not all, pharmacies are open by 7:00 am. Most businesses will take a long lunch break from around 12:00 to 2:00 or from 1:00 – 3:00 and close their doors. Chain stores, like super markets, and tourist shops will normally remain open all day and not close for lunch. Depending on the businesses, they normally close from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Hostels and hotels, of course, are another matter. Most will open early, around 7:00, and stay open long into the night hoping to catch any late arriving travelers. Most have security guards and/or a male lobby worker to man the front desk at all hours of the night and early morning.
