Cajamarca is a Peruvian city located in the North of the country. It is famous for the historical capture of Inca emperor Atahualpa by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in the battle of Cajamarca, a crucial turning point in Peruvian history.
Located in the La Libertad region in coastal north-western Peru, Trujillo sits on
the banks of the Moche River, in the Moche Valley. It was a site of the great
prehistoric Moche and Chimu cultures before the Inca conquest and thus
features major archaeological sites of pre-Columbian monuments.
Huaraz is the capital of the Ancash region, about 450 km north of Lima. The city is
famous as the starting point for the adjacent high mountainous region of Cordillera
Blanca, with Peru's highest mountain Huascarán (6768 m). The region is especially
popular with experienced trekkers who want to enjoy Peru´s mountainous areas.
Chiclayo is the principal city of the Lambayeque region in northern Peru. Other
nicknames for Chiclayo include "The Capital of Friendship" and the "Pearl of the North".
The city was founded near an important prehistoric archaeological sites (Tombs of Lord
Sipan) which constitute remains of the Wari Empire.
Máncora is a town and beach resort in the Piura Region, in northwestern Peru. The
Pan-American Highway serves as Máncora's main street. The area is known for its
turquoise beaches and good waves, making it a surfing destination. It has a large
proportion of restaurants and nightclubs for such a small town of 10,000.
