Cultural Tour Marinera Dance

Peruvian Paso Horses and Marinera

Description

Peruvian Paso Horses and Marinera

Trujillo in the North of Peru is famous for its cultural highlights: the Marinera dance and the Peruvian Paso Horses. In this tour, you can experience one of the most important traditional dances in the country and witness the elegance and beauty of the famous Paso Horses. The care and training of Paso horses in Trujillo is a very old tradition. These horses, bred for over 300 years, are considered the best saddle horses in the world for being such smooth walkers. The rider merely moves around during the shows: the so called "Chalán" remains almost immobile on the horse.

The Marinera is a graceful and romantic couple's dance that uses handkerchiefs as props. The dance is an elegant and stylized reenactment of a courtship, and it shows a blend of the different cultures of Peru. The dance itself has gained a lot of recognition and is one of the most popular traditional dances of Peru. Ever since the 1960s, during the month of January, the National Contest of Marinera Norteña is held in Trujillo, the national capital of Marinera.
