Chavín Huántar Tour

Description

Chavín Huántar Tour

Huaraz is situated between the mountain ranges Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra in the north-west of Peru and has an altitude of 3052 meters. After the 1970 earthquake, the city was rebuilt in American style. The streets are wide with concrete block boxes. That might not sound very charming, but Huaraz is definitely worth it! The city is an important starting point for trekking and adventure tours in the region.

Chavín de Huántar is an archaeological site near Huaraz. It gave the name to the local culture that dates back to the time between 850 BC. and 200 BC. The purpose of Chavín is still unknown. It is assumed that it used to be an oracle or cultural center of significant scale.
