Instead of one single rainbow peak, Palccoyo features several colorful mountains and impressive panoramic viewpoints. The hike is shorter and less steep, making it ideal for travelers who prefer a lighter trekking experience at high altitude.

You enjoy spectacular views of red valleys, snowcapped peaks, and the surrounding Andean countryside. This tour to Palccoyo is perfect if you want stunning scenery, fewer crowds, and a manageable hike in just one day from Cusco.

What to Expect

The day begins very early with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. After a scenic drive through traditional Andean villages and highland landscapes, you reach the starting point of the walk.

The hiking time is approximately 1 to 2 hours in total. The trail is gradual and easier than the classic Rainbow Mountain hike. You visit different viewpoints overlooking the colorful mountain range.

There is also the option to walk to the Stone Forest viewpoint for even wider panoramic views. After enjoying the scenery and taking photos, you return to Cusco in the afternoon.

Palccoyo is often called the alternative Rainbow Mountain. While Vinicunca is more famous, it is also more crowded and physically demanding.

Palccoyo involves more driving and less walking. The altitude is similar, reaching around 4900 meters, so acclimatization in Cusco is still essential.

If you prefer fewer tourists, a shorter hike, and multiple colorful ridges instead of one main peak, Palccoyo is an excellent choice.
