Copacabana is a small village on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. It is a relaxed village at almost 4,000 meters altitude. In this village, you visit the famous basilica, buy your souvenirs for your family and friends or take the boat to Isla del Sol, the holy Island of the Sun.
The Lake Titicaca, on which Copacabana is located, is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world, at 3,820 meters. It lies on the border between Peru and Bolivia and is connected by 25 different rivers. With its surface of 8,340 square kilometres, it is also the second largest lake in South America.
Copacabana is the most famous and important coastal town in Bolivia, although you should not expect a tourist resort full of hotel apartments, such as along the beach in the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro that bears the same name.
