Copacabana is a small village on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. It is a relaxed village at almost 4,000 meters altitude. In this village, you visit the famous basilica, buy your souvenirs for your family and friends or take the boat to Isla del Sol, the holy Island of the Sun.
The Lake Titicaca, on which Copacabana is located, is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world, at 3,820 meters. It lies on the border between Peru and Bolivia and is connected by 25 different rivers. With its surface of 8,340 square kilometres, it is also the second largest lake in South America.
Copacabana is the most famous and important coastal town in Bolivia, although you should not expect a tourist resort full of hotel apartments, such as along the beach in the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro that bears the same name.
We will pick you up from your hotel in La Paz at 08:00 in the morning and leave for Copacabana. We will arrive at 12:00 at the hotel in Copacabana to register and to put the bags in the rooms. After the hotel registration we will have lunch on the beach with traditional food. After lunch there will be a city tour and a visit to the cathedral. You can also choose to climb the Calvario to watch the sunset from there.
Breakfast at 08:30 in the morning in the hotel. Afterwards we will take the boat to the northern part of the Island of the Sun. There we will start a 4 hour walk towards the southern part of the island. While walking we will spot various ruins and can enjoy the beautiful landscape. At night, we will have dinner at our hotel on the island (not included).
Breakfast at 07:30 in the morning in the hotel. At 08:30 we will go visit two more highlights on the Island of the Sun. After that, around 10:30, we will take the boat back to Copacabana and head back to the city of La Paz.
