Furthermore, the famous Plaza de Armas is filled with decorations, Christmas lights and dolls, and Christmas dinners are brought to less fortunate Peruvian families that have come far away from home during Christmas.

Christmas Market in Cusco

A unique activity during the Christmas season in Cusco is the Santurantikuy Christmas market, which takes places in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco on December 24th. Here, you have the perfect opportunity to browse the stalls while drinking the traditional ponche. This is a hot drink that has milk, sugar, algarrobina, eggs, and sometimes a touch of alcohol. It is the custom of Peruvians to drink this delicious beverage while attending the market and waiting for the firework display on Christmas Eve!
