Andean Barroque Route or Souther Valley

The Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru is well-known for its ancient Inca ruins, terraces, markets and the beautiful nature. It is a very popular tourist destination for travellers on a day tour departing from Cusco with stops in Pisac, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero. From here, it is easy to connect with the train to the famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

A less popular destination is the southern part of the valley: el valle sur. This part of the valley is not that well-known, but is definitely worth a visit.

Interesting Facts For your visit to the Sacred Valley in Cusco
Wednesday February 10, 2016 - Posted by

(more…)

Alles in 1 dag! The bus and gids zijn bij de tour ingegrepen. (more…)

Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas

How to get to the Sacred Valley from Cusco?

In our blog ‘Getting Around Cusco – a Local Transportation Guide” you can see your options to figure out what local forms of transportation (bus, taxi, minivan) work best for you during your stay in the imperial city of Cusco- Peru.

If you want to explore farther afield than Cusco by local transportation then Av. Grau and its surrounds is your embarkment point for routes through Chinchero to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit Pisac, Calca, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chincheros.

The area around the Rosaspata market is where you want to go to get to Pisac.

To go south down the Cusco Southern valley in the direction of Pitumarca for the Tipon ruins, then head to Plaza Tupac Amaru.

There are three main ways to hitch a ride out of Cusco: by bus, by minivan (or combi), and by colectivo. Each of these options runs all day with vehicles taking off once their seats are filled and another empty one taking their place to wait for the next round of passengers.

Pisac is a small town in the Sacred Valley and is famous for its colorful Sunday market. When you are in Cusco, I highly recommend you visit Pisac. There are a few ways to get to Pisac.  You can either book a private tour (a bit pricy) or you can take a Tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On this tour you will

visit all the highlights of this famous Valley, including Pisac, but also Ollantaytambo, Chincheros and Urubamba.  You will have a guide, a bus and you will conveniently visit many tourist sites on one single day.

However, you can also go to Pisac by yourself, on a local bus. This takes more time but it is a really nice experience.

That’s what we did! We went to Pisac on a Sunday, early in the morning. (more…)

Visiting the Hot Springs in Santa Teresa

Cusco is surrounded by beautiful sceneries; with the Sacred Valley, Inca ruins in Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and the highlight of it all: Machu Picchu. These places are probably all on your list of places to visit during your travels in Peru. However, if you have been there and you want to get out of the city and do something else, a weekend trip to Santa Teresa might be a nice option.

Santa Teresa is a village, located in the jungle on the Northwest side of Cusco. The ride is about 4.5 hours to the very small village, Santa Marina (there are no banks or ATM here, so bring enough cash money), plus 1 hour more from Santa Marina to Santa Teresa. It is located in the jungle, thus explaining why the climate is very different from Cusco. It is warmer and more humid. April to October are the driest and best months to visit the Peruvian jungle regions because there is less rain and less mosquitoes. However, the temperature can still drop to 13°C at night.
