(more…)

When’s the Best Time to Visit Peru? A Month-By-Month Guide

The best time to visit Peru depends completely on which part of the country you plan on exploring. Peru can be divided into three main areas when it comes to the country’s average climate: the coast, the Amazon Jungle and the Andes Mountains – the latter of which being the location of Machu Picchu.

As a result, it’s hard to give an exact idea of the average weather in Peru as it varies significantly across the country; this country covers around 1.285 million square kilometres, making it just a bit smaller than the state of Alaska.

But there are distinct variations in weather and temperatures between the different parts of Peru, meaning there are certain months when it’s better to visit a particular region. (more…)

Why Inca Jungle Trek the best choice is for visiting Machu Picchu

An intriguing question for many travelers in Peru: what is the best option to travel to Machu Picchu, the amazing Inca Citadel? There are several ways to travel to Machu Picchu. Do you want to know Why Inca Jungle Trek the best choice is for visiting Machu Picchu?

When preparing for your visit to Machu Picchu, the first decision you have to make is: will I do a Machu Picchu Tour by train? Or a Machu Picchu hike? My boyfriend, my mother-in-law and I agreed from the beginning that we wanted to hike to Machu Picchu instead of taking a bus or train. But which trek would be the best option for us?

It was not easy to decide for a trek to Machu Picchu. The tickets for the Inca Trail were already sold out months in advance, so this was not an option for us. The 4- or 5-day Salkantay Trek offers amazing views and nature experiences… But it seemed to be a bit too difficult for us. Then we heard about the Inca Jungle Trek. The Inca Jungle Trek offers hiking at a lower altitude than the Salkantay Trek, and it also includes biking and optional activities like rafting and zip lining. That sounded perfect! So, we booked the Inca Jungle Trek with Dos Manos! (more…)

Peru: 3 Day Hikes off the Beaten Path

The Cusco region in Peru is known for its soaring peaks and stunning scenery. For this reason, there are so many great hikes that you can do in here, such as the Inca Trail or the Salkantay Trek. For those treks, you need a travel agency (especially for the Inca trail as only official operators can offer this trek).*

But there are also some really nice smaller hikes you can do on your own. Tackling the Cusco region can be a bit daunting so make sure you are well prepared. With some many mountains and so many unmarked trails left by the Incas, it´s hard to know just where to start.

But for those with an adventurous spirit, interested in exploring this awesome area, we have prepared a list of three day hikes in Cusco, off the beaten path. These hikes are not quite as well-known to the average tourist, so you can enjoy the tranquility of nature without being surrounded by hordes of people! Make sure you are well prepared.
