Adrenaline Pumping Sand Tour Adventures in Peru

The Peruvian coast South of Lima has a lot to offer for those exporing Peru. There is not only a lot to see and to do in this region, such as the Paracas National Reserve, the Nazca Lines, and the Ballestas Islands. But here you can have so much fun during the adrenaline pumping sand based adventure! Keep on reading and get a glance of how much fun sandboarding in Peru is.

Huacachina is the place where you need to travel to. It is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the Peruvian desert nearby Ica and Nazca; a nice and silent place. I loved it there, mainly because I had spent a couple of days in the more hectic and chaotic Peruvian capital Lima before arriving at Huacachina. The small lagoon is attractive, and the weather is good: a great place to relax. (more…)

Peru’s Pisco Sour Day

Peru’s most famous cocktail is by far the Pisco Sour and therefore the people of Peru yearly celebrate the Día del Pisco Sour or, in English, Pisco Sour Day . The event takes places on the first Saturday of February.

The most important ingredient of this delicious Peruvian cocktail is, of course, Pisco. Therefore it is interesting to know a bit more about this typical Peruvian liqueur.

After the Spanish conquered South America, they imported vine plants to Peru in the 15th century. Because they had grapes left that were not good enough for the wine, they decided to use these leftovers in a different product and this is when Pisco got invented.

Sandboarding in the Desert of Huacachina in Peru
Wednesday May 14, 2014 - Posted by

(more…)

Sandboarding in the Desert of Huacachina in Peru
Monday May 12, 2014 - Posted by

In Cusco – where I’m living for a while as I’m doing my internship in Peru at Dos Manos Travel Peru – there are a lot of possibilities for amazing multiple day trips. Because Peru is a country with such big distances, it is not uncommon to be on the road for sometimes 10 hours or more to reach your destination. With a couple of days to my disposal I decided to make a trip to the desert of Huacachina, at the southern coast of Peru. It took a 17-hour bus ride to get to Ica, close to Nazca, known from the famous Nazca lines. From Ica, I had to take a taxi that took about 15 minutes to reach Huacachina. I absolutely dreaded the bus ride but knew that if I ever wanted to get anywhere in Peru, it was necessary. Several people told me that Huacachina was something totally different than Cusco, which is located in the Peruvian highlands. One the most fun things to do in Ica and Huacachina, is sand board and take a buggy ride. So it was time for me to pack my weekend bag and take the exhausting bus ride.
