New! Immerse Yourself in the Roots of the Andes
Get a glimpse of daily life in Peru with one of our community based tours in the Cusco area. During one of our immersion trips, you are in direct contact with indigenous or local families, venturing into their day-to-day lives!
One of our most popular options is to the communities in the Potato Park, nearby Pisac, located at approximately 30 kilometers from Cusco.
Being of natural heritage, the Potato Park is part of an ecotourism program for travelers. Tourists can come and fully immerse themselves in the world of the local communities and the native potato. Visitors enjoy the amazing scenery and adventure through a circuit of trails; but they will also learn about and try typical Andean dishes from the “Papa Marka” restaurant, and learn from the local guides about the ecosystem and natural heritage of the site.
The Dos Manos Peru Tour includes the transport from Cusco to Pisac and to the Potato Park, where you will be received by representatives of the Quechua communities. After arrival, our tour and the introduction to the Potato Park will begin. The guides will explain the significance of the Potato Park to biodiversity conservation and the role of the native potato, facing climate change. They will also indicate the role of medicinal plants of the area.
After lunch with the local people, we travel to the nearby traditional community of Chawaytire. If you go for the full immersion program, you can spend the night here in this local community. The local people here will give us the opportunity to learn about Peruvian textiles and give a presentation of their high quality hand-made weavings. The people in Chawaytire are keen on saving the traditional Andean weaving techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation and that they inherited since ancestral times. Women and kids will be happy to show you and to teach you.
The community based tourism creates a maximum benefit to the local community and their natural environment and is a unique opportunity for the travellers to taste the true flavour of traditional Peruvian rural life. If you are interested in a community based trip to the Potato Park and experience local life with the local people of Peru, contact Dos Manos Travel Peru. This is an experience you will never forget.
