The old Inca Town Cusco is nowadays very a charming city, full of romanticism. It is the perfect destination for couples who are traveling in Peru and who want to spend a romantic Valentine’s Day during their trip, or a Honeymoon, or any other special anniversary or celebration. Due to the wide variety of cozy and nice restaurants, the picturesque, narrow streets, the colorful local people and the amazing scenery, Cusco can be called one of the most romantic cities in South America, without a doubt.
But, where to go in Cusco to make the most out of that amazing romantic event?
Here are the best tips for travelers in Peru staying in Cusco during Valentine’s Day: the most romantic places in Cusco.
Where to find the Most Romantic Places in Cusco
The San Blas Quarter
The San Blas Quarter in Cusco is very popular among travelers. It is nearby the city center, about ten minutes walking. There are many small shops selling handicrafts as well as fun and special coffee shops and restaurants. The narrow alleys give the quarter a special flair. Scrolling through San Blas is a great way to start this special day with your loved one. Oh and remember: everything in San Blas seem to be ‘uphill’.
Plaza San Blas
Start at the Plaza or Plazoleta San Blas. Here you can find a small artificial waterfall and (a lot of) stairs. After climbing those stairs, you can take a cute picture on the Plaza, with the mountains and the city of Cusco in the background. On the Plazoleta, you can find nice souvenir shops, restaurants, and museums.
The viewpoint of San Blas
Don’t miss out on going to the viewpoint in San Blas from where you have an amazing view of the city center of Cusco.
The so-called Mirador de San Blas is close to the Plaza. Turn left and walk down the Calle Tandapata and then turn right into the Calle Pasñapaka where you need to climb some stairs.
Although it is quite exhausting, it is certainly worth it! You get an even better view of the city from above. Apart from that, there are benches at the viewpoint where you can sit down, relax and enjoy the view.
The Limbus Restobar
After taking pictures, go for drinks the Limbus Restobar. The bar is located uphill so you will enjoy the stunning view of the city even more. How about drinking a Pisco Sour on the terrace in the sun? The Limbus Restobar does not just offer drinks, but also a good (vegetarian) menu so it’s a great place for lunch or dinner too.
The City Center of Cusco
Plaza de Armas
The Plaza de Armas of Cusco is probably the first place all tourists visit after arriving in Cusco. It is a lovely, lively place, with many locals and tourist sitting on the benches. The plaza is even more magical during the night. When the lights of the lanterns turn on, and there are fewer people, you can enjoy the romantic ambiance even better.
At Plaza de Armas you can find many restaurants that have a balcony or at least big windows so that you can take a look at the illuminated Plaza while drinking a glass of wine and having dinner with your loved one.
LIMO Cocina Peruana & Pisco Sour
Located at the Plaza de Armas, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit! Being really proud of its seafood, LIMO Cocina Peruana & Pisco Sour offers a combination of Peruvian and Japanese food. Have you ever heard of “causa”? “Causa” is a typical Peruvian dish made of mashed potato terrine stuffed with seafood, like salmon, and a special sauce, avocado and oil. Try this delicious, light Peruvian dish.
And, is there anything more romantic, than sharing a lovely sweet Peruvian dessert with your loved one after that?
Fallen Angel
If you don’t want to eat at the Plaza de Armas, there are, of course, many other options. Fallen Angel is a restaurant (and a luxury guest house) in the city center of Cusco, 300 meters from the Plaza de Armas. What makes Fallen Angel so special, are the decorations. Here you can find many pieces of art and red couches creating a cozy and romantic atmosphere all over the restaurant. There are several couches and pillows in a heart shape.
Apart from that, they use the angel motive everywhere. The tables are an eye-catcher because they consist of a bathtub with fish swimming inside. If you want to spend an unforgettable – and different – Valentine’s Day in Peru this year, you should try Fallen Angel and book a table!
As you can see, there are different ways you can spend a romantic day in the charming city of Cusco with the person you love.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
