When you are visiting Peru, there is a wide array of great tours, hikes and other fun adventure trips. But which one should you choose? If you like a little bit of adventure, beautiful nature and seeing the sights, you should definitely include the the ATV Tour in the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s in your itinerary.

And it’s important to do it the right way, with reliable agency, a good guide, and a test tour.

This tour takes place at about 45 minutes by bus from the city centre of Cusco. You can do the tour either in the morning or in the afternoon. First the instructors will explain how the ATV’s work and you will do a test route.

When I arrived at the rental place I was a little bit worried, the ATV’s seemed so BIG! And I had never driven one so I got really scared. However, the instructors are good and the test route was really helpful! So I decided to go on with this and go for it!

The total tour takes about 3 or 4 hours through a beautiful landscape of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

This valley was appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities. It was one of the empire’s main points for the extraction of natural wealth, and one of the most important areas for maize production in Peru northwards from Pisac.

The picturesque villages of Calca, Lamay, Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo are part of the valley, that was formed by the Urubamba River – a great spot for river rafting!

After about half an hour, you can choose if you want to visit Moras or the salt mines. We chose to do the salt mines, which cost 10 soles (+/- € 2,50) and is amazing! The tour guide explains the story of the salt mines and you can taste the warm salty water. After this we drove further into the stunning valley, through the mountains with amazing views.

We did the tour in the afternoon; it was a little bit rainy but for us it didn’t matter! It was cold though, so you should always take enough warm clothing with you. This ATV Tour was an amazing experience that gave me a lot of adrenaline. I would definitely recommend it, and I will probably do it again myself!
