7 tips for a Perfect Quad Tour in Peru

  1. Take warm clothes

You can do the quad tour either in the morning or in the afternoon. If you are doing the quad tour in the afternoon, you will be driving during the sunset. When it gets dark, it can get pretty cold in the Cusco area, especially while driving, so bring a jacket! Even during the day it can be cold when it is cloudy, so wear layers! The elevation of the Sacred Valley is lower than Cusco’s, but it’s still at an altitude of 2700 above sea level so it gets chilly.

  1. Wear clothes that can get dirty

You will be driving over sandy and muddy roads, so expect to get dirty. Especially when you do the tour in the rainy season in Peru, you can expect rain and mud. So wear something that can get dirty and wear good shoes, so no flip-flops nor sandals!

  1. Take a rain jacket

The weather can change very quickly in the Andes, so be prepared for changes. Take a rain jacket or poncho with you in case of rain.

  1. Bring sunblock and sunglasses

Because of the altitude in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, the sun can be very strong. Bring sunblock to avoid a sunburn and take sunglasses so you won’t be blinded by the sun while driving.

  1. Bring some snacks and drinks

The tour will start in a remote area of the Sacred Valley, so there won’t be any possibility to buy snacks or beverages. Make sure you bring something to eat and drink.

  1. Bring a daypack

You will be driving the quad through the Sacred Valley, so you won’t have any free hands to carry your purse or other loose items. Bring a backpack to carry your rain jacket, sunblock, snacks and drinks with you.

  1. Be aware that you need a tourist ticket to enter Moray

During the quad tour you will visit Maras and Moray. For the salt mines of Maras, you need to buy a separate ticket that costs S/.10. However, if you also want to enter Moray you will need the Boleto Turistico (Cusco Tourist ticket) which costs S/.70 for a partial ticket or S/.130 for a 10-day ticket. If you also want to visit other sites in the Sacred Valley and in Cusco, we advise you to buy the 10-day ticket, which gives you access to all the sites for 10 days.
