Top 8 Things to do in Lima

Among travelers in Peru, popular sites to visit in Lima are the neighborhoods Miraflores and Barranco, the architecture in the city center, around the Plaza de Armas, as well as the “Costa Verde”, a famous beach strip on the Pacific Ocean. But there is much more!

For tourists, in Peru, a visit to the majestic Peruvian capital often is both an impressive experience as well as an orientation challenge. Since its establishment by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18 in 1535, the “City of Kings” has grown to an urban giant being home to a population as big as 8.4 million.

The market was not too big, but it did have a nice vibe to it. The huge variety of colorful items, the friendly Peruvian people, the small restaurants and cafes located on the sides of the streets and of course the stunning landscape of mountains and greenery surrounding the area, made it a lovely morning. I couldn’t believe how beautiful this place was. The green surroundings with tiny houses on the hills, along with the old ruins, made for a perfect view, just like a classic painting. (more…)

Practical Tips for your Visit to Paracas & Ballestas Islands

If you travel overland from Lima to Arequipa, you will encounter the National Park Paracas, at a 4 hours bus drive from the Peruvian capital. Many travelers in Peru make a one day stop here (or even less) before they continue their trip further south, to (Ica, Nazca, and) Arequipa. The main attractions of this region are the Paracas National Reserve itself and the Ballestas Islands. What can you do and see here? Check it out and read our Practical Tips for your Visit to Paracas & Ballestas Islands.
