Experience “Día de los Muertos” in Peru

The 2nd of November is a very special day for Peruvians and therefor for all travellers in Peru. It is the celebration of the “Day of the Dead”, a traditional festivity where families celebrate and greet their deceased on the graveyards with music, food, drinks, flowers and dances. The day before is also celebrated and known as the “Día de los Santos” or Todos los Santos – The day of the Saints. Travelers in Peru will feel the magic atmosphere and feel overwhelmed by Cusco’s amazing bread baking tradition, especially in the streets around the San Pedro Market.

As many people already know, Day of the Dead is a well known tradition in Mexico; but not only here. It is actually celebrated all over Latin America. In Peru, the Incas had a strong connection with their deceased. So when the Spaniards arrived, it was easy to combine the Inca beliefs with the new Catholic elements brought by the Spaniards.
