Semana Santa has already started in Cusco, it actually kicked off yesterday with Domingo de Ramos, Palm Sunday. or Domingo de Ramos with the traditional blessing of the palm at the Plaza de Armas early in the morning.

The entire Holy Week is filled with celebrations and processions. It is an important week for the catholic society in which they remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. And in Cusco this celebration is also associated with “El Señor de los Temblores” or Lord of the Earthquakes, protector of the city.

Then Holy Monday or Lunes Santo is the main day in Cusco, today is the day of the procession of the Lord of the Earthquakes. The statue is taken out of the church for the public to adore and to thank him for his protection. (more…)
