Undecided still, about where to spend this year’s Christmas or New Years’ Eve? Why don’t you come and visit Peru? Wouldn’t it be fabulous to wake up on Christmas morning to see the amazing sunrise at the old Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Booking your tour to Peru and to Machu Picchu in December, this becomes a reality.

The amazing town of Cusco
The city of Cusco, capital of the old Inca Empire, is an amazing experience at only an hour flight from the Peruvian capital Lima. While you get acclimatized to the altitude of the Peruvian Andean highlands, you enjoy the magical Christmas atmosphere in the cobble stoned streets of Cusco full of restaurants, shops and cafes.  The Christmas atmosphere in Cusco is cheerful and magical. The highlight is definitely the Santurantikuy Christmas Fair held yearly at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, the main square and the heart of the city. Here you will find the local people selling their typical Peruvian Christmas decorations. Well worth a visit!  And of course there is much more to do for Christmas in Cusco.

White Water Rafting in Peru

Trip Review River Rafting Tour

Last Sunday I went river rafting in Cusco with two friends I met at AMAUTA Spanish School, during our Spanish classes in Peru. At 9.00 we were picked up from Cusco and driven to a spot along the Urubamba River. After a 2-hour ride we could go and change our clothes. We were handed a wetsuit, a kind of rain jacket, life jacket, a paddle and a helmet. Then we went back in the bus and shortly after we arrived at the starting point of the raft trip. Everyone got ready to get into the boats. First we were informed on safety and the techniques you need to use in the boat and in case you fall out off the boat. The explanation was very clear. There were six people in one raft and there was one guide joining us. None of us had ever rafted before, but that was no problem. A number of rescue canoes were out in case of falling overboard. The currents of the Urubamba river varied; the highest level last Sunday was the third level.

Arequipa: Een stad om je in onder te dompelen

Arequipa is the second largest city of Peru, located on the Western slopes of the Andes Chain in the south of the country. At 2,325 meters above sea level, it has a comfortable climate. Known for its eternal spring (la eterna primavera) the days are usually pretty warm and sunny, but the nights are cold. A 3 hour drive from Arequipa will take you to the Peruvian coast. Nearest beach town is Mollendo which is great for spending a day or two. Five hours from Arequipa is the neighboring country of Chile.
