Rainbow Mountain Trek

Description

Rainbow Mountain Trek

The beautiful Rainbow Mountain in Peru is a relatively unknown trek with limited information available online. Rainbow Mountain in Peru is also known as Vinicunca, which means rainbow in Quechua, the ancient Inca language of Peru.

This special and stunning mountain range in the Ausangate region, nearby Cusco, gets its name from the many different colors displayed in its mountain peaks. These colors appear because of the various minerals in the soil of the mountains. The highest point you will reach during the Rainbow Mountain Tour is 5100 meters (3168 miles) above sea level! Due to the high altitude and lack of oxygen, this trek is a challenge for most people, especially for those who are not used to trekking at high altitudes.

During the trek, you will climb for approximately 3 hours through stunning landscapes packed with llamas and alpacas to finally reach the top of Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca.

Highly recommended!

Usually, the trek to Rainbow Mountain is offered as a 1 day tour (see below).

More possibilities to see the Rainbow Mountain are the famous Ausangate Trek in 6 days, a 2-day privately organized trek to Rainbow Mountain or the 1-day tour to the special vista point Palccoyo. Contact us about these alternatives!
