Rainbow Mountain Tour

Rainbow Mountain Tour

The beautiful Rainbow Mountain Tour in Peru is one of the most popular tours in the Cusco region, together with tours to Machu Picchu, Lake Humantay and the Sacred Valley. Rainbow Mountain is also known as Vinicunca, which means “rainbow” in Quechua, the ancient Inca language of Peru. Rainbow Mountain has only recently been discovered due to the ice melting on top of the mountains, and is now quickly becoming one of most must-see destinations in Peru.

This stunning mountain range in the Ausangate region nearby Cusco, gets its name from the beautiful different colors displayed in the mountain peaks. These colors appear because of the minerals in the soil of the mountains and the atmosphere in the area. You will reach the highest point of the Rainbow Mountain Tour at 5100 meters (3168 miles) above sea level! Due to the high altitude and lack of oxygen, this tour is can be challenging but is certainly worth all the effort; it’s best to make sure you are well acclimatized in Cusco. During the Rainbow Mountain tour, you will climb for approximately 3 hours through stunning landscapes packed with llamas and alpacas to finally reach the top of Rainbow Mountain or vinicunca. Highly recommended!

Usually, Rainbow Mountain Tour is offered as a 1 day tour; however, there also a two day Rainbow Mountain Tour including an overnight. Other options to see the Rainbow Mountain are during the famous Ausangate Trek in 6 days or the 1-day tour to the special vista point Palccoyo. Contact us about these alternatives!
