Rainbow Mountain in Peru is a relatively unknown trek with limited information available online. Rainbow Mountain is also known as Vinicunca, which means rainbow in Quechua, the ancient Inca language. This special mountain range gets its name from the many different colors displayed in its mountain peaks. These colors appear because of the various minerals in the soil of the mountains. The highest point you will reach during this trek is 5100 meters (3168 miles) above sea level. Due to the high altitude and lack of oxygen, this trek is a challenge for most people, especially for those who are not used to trekking at high altitudes. The trek to Rainbow Mountain can be done in 1 day, 2 days or as part of the famous Ausangate trek of 6 days.
During the trek, you will climb for approximately 3 hours through stunning landscapes packed with llamas and alpacas to finally reach the top of Rainbow Mountain. Highly recommended!
