The Sacred City Of Pachacamac (LISCP)
|
Description
Peru's capital, Lima, was once reputed to be the most beautiful city in Spanish America. Lima today retains much of its charm, despite its rather shapeless expanse of modern suburbs and dusty shantytowns that run for miles in each direction along the Panamerican Highway.
Long established as Peru's seat of government, the city is home to more than eight million people, over half of who live in relative poverty without decent water supplies, sewage or electricity. There is still a certain elegance to the old colonial centre, and the city hosts a string of excellent museums.
Pachacamac has been a sacred and ceremonial place since the beginning of the Christian era, where thousands of pilgrims have come with their offerings to consult the oracle of Pachacamac that is believed to watch the past, the future and the destiny.

Itinerary
Our guided tour of Pachacamac presents the pyramidal temples and enclosures built by various Pre-Columbian cultures including the Incas. We visit the temples to the Sun god and of the Virgins of the Sun (Acllahuasi). The site museum holds the idol of the god Pachacamac. This place is considered sacred and part of the mystical axis of the world.
The trip includes the streets of Barranco, a traditional town and it’s Bridge of the Sighs, the beaches of Costa Verde, the Ecological Reserve of the Villa of the Marshes and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, crossing the southern route of the Panamerican highway.
