White Water Rafting (3 Days 2 Nights) (WRR3/2)
|
Description
Some of the best rivers for White Water rafting in South America are in the mountains surrounding Cusco, so if you want to give it a try this is the place!.
The Apurimac River is world famous for white water, with rapids from Class I up to adrenaline pumping Class V. The scenery is spectacular; much of the route runs through the Apurimac Canyon – rumored to be the deepest canyon in the world! Each night you camp on beaches by the side of the river, from such a remote location the starry sky at night is breathtaking.
Level I: Really easy without any risk, we just let the stream take us down.
Level II: Stream with some waves and small rocks.
Level III: Stream, rocks, holes, waves (enjoyable).
Level IV: Stream, rocks, holes with more gradient or more volume of water with a little bit of risk. For this level, it’s not necessary to have a safety kayak with the group.
Level V: Stronger and more enjoyable than the class IV with an element of risk, maximum commercial rafting level. For these rapids it’s necessary to have a safety kayak with the group.
Please Note: this trip is only available during the dry season approximately from April to November. These dates are subject to change depending on the exact timing of the wet and dry seasons.

Day One
You will be picked up from your hotel at 8am, before leaving Cusco and driving 4 hours to the put in at Huallpachaca bridge, 2000m above sea level. Here the guides prepare all the equipment while the passengers have lunch. After lunch we give out your wetsuits, splash vests, lifejackets, helmets and paddles, and give a detailed safety talk in English. Emphasis is put on training all passengers to deal with any of the possible situations - in how to get back into the raft, flipping the raft, swimming a rapid etc.
This afternoon we are on the river for approximately 2 to 3 hours running class II and III rapids. This gentle section of the river is used for training and getting to know everyone in your boat. We camp in a narrow gorge with spectacular canyon walls. Here the guides will prepare dinner and a camp fire once it gets dark.
Day Two
After breakfast we start rafting around 9:00am. Today we will be in the water for about 6 hours, running mostly class III and IV rapids. We´ll stop for lunch and then arrive at camp around 4:00pm. We sleep on a sandy beach under the night sky of the southern hemisphere.
Day Three
After a good breakfast we are going to be rafting through a couple of class V rapids with names such as "tooth ache", "you first and "last laugh". After 3 to 4 hours of rafting we arrive at the take out, where we pack all the equipment, have lunch and drive back to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 pm.
