Description
This is a wonderful trip if you like hiking, being in the middle of nowhere and being surrounded by nature! We pass through the ‘X-Zone’, a site where few tourists visit even though it is less than one hour from Cusco. It consists of a small hill covered with stones and littered with caves. These stones were placed here by ancient people and have been very interestingly transformed into temples, and underground and carved passages.
The main attraction on this trek are the ruins of Uchuy Q’osqo (small Cusco), situated near to the Sacred Valley above Calca. It is known as small Cusco because it is said to mimic the exact shape of Cusco but on a much smaller scale. From the ruins are spectacular views over the mountain range Cordillera de Vilcanota. It is a fascinating site where the Inca chief Viracocha lived. The mummy that was found here is said to be of him. The ruins are part stone and part adobe; some of the houses are ‘post-Inca’, but in Inca-style, and there is a Spanish-style reservoir.
