Machu Picchu dazzled Hollywood stars, rock legend in 2011

The Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, located in Peru’s Cusco region, confirmed its power of attraction worldwide this year as it was visited by dozens of thousands of tourists, which included Hollywood stars like Jim Carrey and rock legend Mick Jagger.

For instance, the music icon and lead singer of English rock band The Rolling Stones arrived in the archaeological complex on October 14, together with his girldfriend L'Wren Scout and son Lucas Maurice.

Despite the rain and fog that day, the Satisfaction hitmaker entered the citadel at with a special permit and under strict security measures.

On the other hand, Canadian actor Jim Carrey visited Machu Picchu on June 30. Huayna Picchu – a mountain around which the Urubamba River bends – the Temple of the Three Windows, as well as the Intihuatana stone, impressed him.

Other foreign visitors who arrived in the Imperial city this year are Hollywood actor and Richard Gere, The fast and the Furious star Michelle Rodriguez and English-American actress Geraldine Chaplin.
